They first met each other freshman year of high school in their hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. From the start, Alex always had a huge crush on Grace, but it wasn’t until the summer before their junior year when Alex finally made a move.
Grace + Alex led their guests up a walk through the woods to their mountaintop ceremony with a photo from every year of their relationship.
An adorable perk of shifting to an intimate wedding was that Grace + Alex got to write each of their guests a handwritten letter.
With the help of Alex’s friends relentlessly telling him to talk to her since they knew he was obsessed with her, Alex decided to write on her Facebook wall after he saw her walk out of a movie one night with her twin sister, Mattie. He adorably asked her how the movie was, and she replied to his post asking him about his summer, and they continued talking in that thread all summer long.
Finally he asked her out to a movie, and after a few casual dates they were official. By the time senior year arrived, their relationship had become more serious and they fell in love.
The next few years was all long distance as Grace went to college + Alex pursued pro hockey. After he finished school, they finally got to move to Denver together. “I feel like I’ve dated ten Alex’s because we’ve evolved so much from who we were when we met. We’ve changed in sync with each other.”
“I like our relationship the most how it is now. Alex continually makes me a better person. He challenges my thinking + he is so supportive. He’s the happiest person I’ve ever met. He loves his commute to work-everything in life is just another great opportunity to him. He finds the good in everything while always being a realist. He’s my favorite person to be around. And he tells really bad jokes,”
“Or really good dad jokes,” Alex interjects. “She sees the good in everyone, and it’s contagious. And she always has positive energy.”
Each guest’s letter was placed at their seat for them to read as the reception began.
Following Alex’s family tradition, everyone gathered to sing “Piano Man” at the end of the night–even Hamilton the pup.
